Silent Film Scoring (Things To Consider)

When you are scoring your silent film there are several things you will want to consider in order to use the music to communicate your message:

DUE WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28

1. Use the music to introduce new characters.

2.  Fit the music to the motion of the film (Is the scene slow motion or sped up?)

3.  Communicate emotion (use different music to evoke different emotions in the viewer (happiness, anxiety, sadness etc)

4.  Change it up (don’t just put one piece of music for the entire film, keep it interesting)

Below is an example of a student film from 2009 and a version with edited audio:

Out Sick Today…

Hey guys, I am out sick today.  There are a couple of things you can work on.

1. If you are planning on singing or rapping you can go to www.soundclick.com and try and find a couple of instrumentals that will fit the style you are wanting to do.

2. Work on your monologue

I am hoping to be back tomorrow.
