It’s Wednesday morning and I’m finally writing my blog. It’s sunny and I have another cold. Blurg. I hate being sick! My cough never fully went away and now it’s “productive” again and I’ve got body aches and a head ache.
Sorry students, but I need to take another day off to try to not only NOT infect you, but to get better.
Here’s what we did and will do this week:
Sophomores:
Monday — Pop quiz to make sure you read Ch.10; Review Proverb homework (Read Ch. 11 tonight)
Tuesday — Journal on START testing; Review Chapter 11 (Read Chs. 12 & 13 tonight); Passed out field trip permission slips for next Tuesday’s Career Exploration Visits to KQED, KTVU, and Beyond Pix.
Wednesday — Review vocabulary words and Chs. 8-13 by writing a summary of the chapters using vocabulary words. (Tomorrow is the test)
Thursday — Ch.8-13 Test; Study guide due tomorrow. Start reading Chapter 14 (finish Chs. 14-19 by next Friday, 3/19)
Friday — Career Explorations Workshop #2: Writing Meaningful Questions for the CEV on 3/16
JUNIORS: We’re going to finish our work with the 11th grade reader and prepare for the research paper you will start writing next week.
Monday — Review “Only Daughter” and the Personal Connection Q you answered
Tuesday — Journal on STAR testing; Start reading “Never Marry A Mexican” by Sandra Cisneros; Consider the three writings by Sandra Cisneros and Write a paragraph answering the question: What are Cisneros’ views on assimilation and multi-culturalism? Cite at least 2 quotes to support your opinion.
Wednesday — Journal 3.11: The narrator in “Never Marry A Mexican” is a pretty hateful perosn and calls herself “vindictive” and “cruel”. How can we feel compassion for her? Is she likeable in any way? Discuss and review story. Read “Working in the Dark: Coming into Language” by Jimmy Santiago Baca and answer the question: How can rejecting assimilation lead to a life of crime and imprisonment?
Thursday — Watch “The Joy Luck Club”
Friday — Finish “The Joy Luck Club”
